The WORK SHARP KEN ONION MK.2 ELITE (Grinding Attachment) is a complete professional sharpening system designed to deliver maximum control, precision, and versatility. Developed in collaboration with legendary knife maker Ken Onion, this all-in-one solution combines the upgraded Mk.2 power platform with both a guided sharpening cassette and Blade Grinding Attachment, giving you the flexibility to switch between controlled and freehand sharpening with ease.
Engineered for performance, it features Flexible Belt Technology that adapts to any blade shape, ensuring smooth and consistent results across a wide range of knives and tools. The leather-lined angle guides, adjustable between 10° and 30°, protect blade finishes while delivering precise, repeatable edges. For more advanced sharpening, the Blade Grinding Attachment allows freehand operation with built-in angle control, making it ideal for restoring or reshaping edges with professional accuracy.
A 7-speed variable motor provides complete control over sharpening speed, allowing you to tailor performance from delicate honing to aggressive material removal. With support for multiple edge profiles and a broad sharpening range, the MK.2 Elite offers total sharpening freedom in a powerful, compact system built for serious users.

Can I sharpen more than just standard pocket and kitchen knives with this?
Yes. Beyond standard blades, the MK.2 is designed to handle serrated knives, scissors, and even outdoor tools like axes or lawnmower blades. The system allows you to reposition the sharpening cassette, turning it into a handheld grinder for larger items that won’t fit through a standard guide.
How do I know which belt to use for my knife?
As a general rule, start with the coarsest belt if your knife is very dull or has visible nicks. Once you feel a "burr" (a slight curl of metal) along the edge, move to the medium belt to refine it, and finish with the fine belt to polish. If you just need to touch up a blade that is still somewhat sharp, you can skip the coarse belts entirely and start with the fine or extra fine grits
Will this sharpener scratch the sides of my knife blades?
The MK.2 features leather lined guides designed to protect the face of your blade from scratches as you pull it through. To ensure your knives stay pristine, it is important to occasionally wipe the guides clean to remove any accumulated metal dust (swarf) that could act as an abrasive.

Is there a learning curve for beginners?
While the motor does the heavy lifting, the MK.2 is built with beginners in mind. It uses a "Place, Power, Pull" method: place the knife in the guide, turn the power on, and pull the knife through at a steady pace. The "Speed Control" feature also allows you to start at a lower speed while you get comfortable with the motion before moving to higher speeds for faster material removal
Can I achieve a "mirror polish" on my blade with this kit?
Yes. Because this is the "Elite" solution, it includes a wider range of belt grits than the standard model. By progressing all the way through the extra fine abrasive belts, you can achieve a highly refined, mirror like finish on the bevel of your knife.
How do I maintain the sharpening belts?
To get the longest life out of your belts, you can use a "belt cleaning brick" (a rubber stick) to remove metal buildup while the belt is spinning. You should also avoid applying heavy pressure; let the speed of the belt do the work. If a belt looks glazed over or no longer feels "toothy," it is likely time to replace it.
Does this sharpener work on "super steels" or very hard blade materials?
The flexible abrasive belts used in this system are engineered to handle modern high-carbon and stainless steels. Because the belts are flexible, they also create a "convex" edge, which is generally tougher and holds its sharpness longer than a flat ground edge, making it ideal for hard use knives.
How often should I sharpen my knives with the MK.2?
For most users, a full sharpening session isn't necessary every week. You can maintain your edge by running the knife through the fine or extra fine belt for a few passes every time it starts to feel slightly dull. This "honing" keeps the edge sharp without removing unnecessary amounts of metal from your blade.
