FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION(S)

Q: How often should I clean my firearm using Parker-Hale products?

A: For optimal accuracy and performance, it is best practice to clean your firearm after every shooting session. Use Parker-Hale 009 Solvent to strip away stubborn carbon, lead, and powder fouling, followed by a coat of Express Gun Oil to lubricate and protect the metal from rust and moisture.

Q: What is the difference between Parker-Hale 009 Solvent and Express Gun Oil?

A: These products serve two completely different stages of the gun maintenance process:

009 Solvent: A chemical cleaner formulated specifically to dissolve powder residue, copper, and lead deposits inside the barrel. It should be wiped out completely after use.
Express Gun Oil: A high-quality lubricant and rust preventative. It is applied after cleaning to protect moving parts, prevent corrosion, and ensure smooth mechanical action.

Q: Why is it important to use caliber-specific cleaning patches?

A: Using the correct patch size (such as .22 or .270 calibre) ensures the perfect amount of friction inside the barrel. If a patch is too loose, it won't properly scrub the rifling; if it is too tight, it can jam inside the bore. Parker-Hale patches are sized precisely to deliver a thorough, uniform clean.

Q: Should I choose a solid (loose) cleaning rod or a 3-piece sectional rod?

A: It depends on where you plan to do your gun maintenance:

Solid/Loose Rods: These offer maximum rigidity and strength, making them the preferred choice for heavy-duty cleaning at your home workshop bench.
3-Piece Brass Rods: These are designed for portability. They break down into a compact storage box, making them ideal for field use, hunting trips, or keeping in your range bag.

Q: What is the benefit of using brass cleaning rods?

A: Brass is a "soft" metal relative to the high-tensile steel used in firearm barrels. By using a Parker-Hale brass cleaning rod, you ensure that even if the rod accidentally rubs against the crown or the internal rifling of your barrel, it won't scratch or damage the precision surfaces of your firearm.

Q: What is the advantage of an aerosol solvent or oil over a traditional liquid/tin?

A: Aerosols offer speed and deep penetration. The pressurized spray allows you to blast solvent or oil into hard-to-reach triggers, springs, and actions without taking the entire firearm apart. Traditional bottles and tins, however, allow for precise, drop-by-drop application on specific areas like bolt channels and hinge points.
