The kit features a Hi-Vis 2m strap made from strong, non-slip cross-weave webbing that self-grips around trees, along with two robust S-hooks for secure hanging. What is the primary purpose of the Napier Apex Tree Hugger?
The Tree Hugger is designed to provide a secure, elevated hanging point for field dressing (gralloching) a carcass in the wild. It allows you to suspend an animal from almost any vertical tree trunk, ensuring a more hygienic process by keeping the meat off the ground and away from contaminants.
How does it stay on the tree without slipping?
The kit uses a specialized 2-meter orange webbing strap made from a unique "cross-weave" material. This fabric is specifically engineered to be self-gripping; when wrapped around a trunk and under tension, it locks onto the bark and will not slide down even under the weight of a carcass.
What size trees can I use it with?
It is highly versatile and fits a wide range of trees. It is most effective on trunks with a diameter between 25 cm and 100 cm. A good rule of thumb is: if you can comfortably wrap your arms around the tree, the Tree Hugger will fit it.
Is it difficult to set up by myself in the field?
Not at all. It was designed for solo hunters to deploy quickly. You simply wrap the strap around the tree at your desired height, tuck the ends to lock it, and attach the included S-hooks. You can then hang the animal one leg at a time.
What species is this kit suitable for?
The standard Tree Hugger is ideal for smaller to medium deer species common in the UK, such as Roe and Muntjac. Its lightweight nature makes it perfect for stalking where portability is key.
Can I use this with larger animals like Fallow or Red deer?
While the strap is very strong, lifting heavier animals manually can be difficult. For larger species, it is recommended to use the Tree Hugger in conjunction with the Napier Apex AutoLift or a pulley system to help manage the extra weight safely.
How portable is the kit?
The entire kit is designed to be "invisible" until you need it. It comes in a compact pouch with a built-in belt loop, so it can live on your waist or in a small pocket of your rucksack without adding significant bulk or weight.

Why should I suspend the animal instead of doing a ground gralloch?
Suspending the animal is widely considered best practice for food hygiene. It allows for better drainage, easier access for a cleaner cut, and prevents the carcass from touching dirt, blood, or insects on the forest floor.
How do I maintain the strap after use? The webbing is durable and non-absorbent. If it gets dirty or bloody during use, it can simply be rinsed with water and allowed to air dry before being packed back into its pouch for your next outing.

We use DPD , RoyalMail, TNT and UPS courier services for all our orders whether dispatching to the UK or International. As soon as your order has been dispatched you will receive an email with your unique tracking number. We are unable to add delivery notes to your order regarding safe spaces or neighbour deliveries. If you require this service it can be arranged directly with the courier once the parcel is in their network.
IN-STORE ITEMS
These are items that we have in-stock and will be sent out for delivery as soon as possible. We aim to dispatch all orders within 1-2 working days, but during busy periods dispatch may be delayed by a day or so. PRE-ORDER ITEMS
These are usually items that are going to be out-of-stock for a number of weeks or are in short supply. By purchasing a Pre-Order Item you are in effect paying a deposit for your goods. As soon as the item is back in stock yours will be dispatched within 24 hours where possible. Please see individual product pages for current back-in-stock dates. In rare occasions, these dates can be changed by the manufacturers so we recommend staying in contact with Optics Warehouse depending on the product lead time.
INTERNATIONAL DELIVERY & TAXES
In addition to the above information If your delivery address is outside of the UK you may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once a shipment reaches your country. Any such additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you. You should note that customs policies vary widely from country to country. Optics Warehouse advises each customer to contact their local customs office for further information if they are in any way unsure of local duties or liabilities. Cross border shipments are subject to opening and inspection by customs authorities which means some packages may be opened and re-sealed.
