SWFA SS 10x42 SFP MQ 30mm GEN 2 Rifle Scope
- The Tactical Workhorse This takes the legendary, ultra-reliable 10x42 platform and pairs it with SWFA’s highly coveted Mil-Quad (MQ) reticle system. If you prefer working in Milliradian (MRAD/Mils) for faster target holdovers and windage adjustments, this scope is a masterclass in efficiency. Built on a rugged 30mm tube with crystal-clear Gen 2 glass, the fixed 10x magnification eliminates the complexity of variable scopes, ensuring your reticle subtensions are perfectly accurate 100% of the time. It is an absolute favorite for practical rifle matches and tactical precision shooters who value mechanical perfection over unnecessary bells and whistles. - George
The SWFA SS 10x42 SFP MQ 30mm GEN 2 Rifle Scope is designed to perform flawlessly in the harshest conditions, from freezing -46°C to blistering +54°C, and from 30,000 feet to 15 feet below the surface. Built from lightweight yet incredibly strong aluminium, this riflescope withstands the recoil of any firearm from .223 to .50 BMG.
The Modular Turret System (MTS) provides unprecedented flexibility, offering multiple turret configurations with a built-in zero stop for precise, repeatable adjustments. Combined with SWFA’s Patented Mil-Quad Reticle, fully multi-coated optics, and refined GEN 2 enhancements, this scope delivers uncompromising accuracy, clarity, and performance shot after shot.

- SWFA SS 10x42 SFP MQ 30mm GEN 2 Rifle Scope
1. What is the main difference between the Gen 1 and the Gen 2 SWFA SS scopes?
The Gen 2 models feature upgraded optical coatings for improved light transmission, contrast, and clarity. Mechanically, they introduce redesigned, lower-profile turrets with crisper, more distinct tactile clicks, and slightly updated reticle options, all while maintaining the legendary "bombproof" reliability of the original line.
2. Why should I choose a fixed-power scope over a variable-power scope?
Fixed-power scopes offer three major advantages: mechanical simplicity (fewer moving parts to break under heavy recoil), optical clarity (fewer glass elements mean better light transmission at a lower price point), and consistently accurate reticle subtensions. Because it is a Second Focal Plane (SFP) scope, your reticle's holdovers are always 100% accurate because the magnification never changes.
3. What is the difference between the MOA and MQ models?
It comes down to your preferred system of measurement:
-
MOA models use Minute of Angle adjustments (usually 1/4 MOA per click), which is ideal for traditional shooters who prefer thinking in inches (e.g., 1 inch at 100 yards).
-
MQ (Mil-Quad) models use Milliradians (0.1 MRAD per click). The Mil-Quad reticle uses diamond shapes for highly precise holdovers and windage reads, which is favored by modern tactical and long-range precision shooters.
4. Do these scopes feature a parallax adjustment, and what is the minimum distance?
Yes, all SWFA SS 10x, 12x, 16x, and 20x models feature a rear-focus parallax adjustment ring (located right in front of the eyepiece). The parallax can be adjusted from 10 meters (approx. 11 yards) to infinity, making these scopes incredibly popular for everything from extreme close-range rimfire/airgun shooting to ultra-long-range centerfire shooting.
5. What size scope rings do I need to mount an SWFA SS scope?
All SWFA SS fixed-power scopes feature a heavy-duty 30mm main tube. You will need high-quality 30mm scope rings. The height of the rings (low, medium, or high) will depend on your specific rifle action and barrel profile, though the 42mm objective lens generally allows for medium or low mounting on most platforms.
6. Are these scopes rated for heavy recoil or spring-piston air rifles?
Absolutely. The SWFA SS line was originally designed to meet military contracts and is famous for its ruggedness. They are fully rated for heavy-recoil calibers (like .300 Win Mag and .50 BMG) as well as the unique, harsh bi-directional recoil of magnum spring-piston air rifles.
7. What magnification should I choose (10x, 12x, 16x, or 20x)?
-
10x: Best all-rounder; versatile for hunting, tactical matches, and target shooting with a wider field of view.
-
12x: The "sweet spot" for mid-to-long-range steel and varmint hunting.
-
16x: Ideal for long-range target shooting and extreme-distance rimfire.
-
20x: Best for dedicated benchrest, F-Class, or ELR (Extreme Long Range) shooting where maximum target resolution is required.
8. Are the turrets resettable to zero?
Yes. Once you have sighted in your rifle, you can easily loosen the set screws on the outer dial of the turrets using an Allen key, align the "0" mark with your indicator line, and tighten them back down. This allows you to easily dial for distance and quickly return to your baseline zero.
9. Are these scopes waterproof and fogproof?
Yes. The SWFA SS Gen 2 scopes are nitrogen-purged and O-ring sealed. They are completely waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof, engineered to perform reliably in freezing temperatures, heavy rain, and harsh environments.
10. Does the reticle illuminate?
No, the SWFA SS fixed-power Gen 2 series utilizes a non-illuminated, laser-etched glass reticle. This ensures the reticle remains incredibly sharp, crisp, and permanently etched into the glass without relying on battery power.
