Caldwell Fire Control Full Length Shooting Rest
The Caldwell Fire Control Full Length Shooting Rest is basically one of Caldwell’s most advanced benchrest systems, built for people who want maximum control over rifle alignment without constantly moving or re-adjusting the setup. It uses a heavy, rigid frame (around 15 lb / 6.8 kg) with a full-length cradle that supports both the forend and rear of the rifle, giving a very stable, “locked-in” shooting platform. The standout feature is the Fire Control system, a multi-directional control arm that lets you make smooth one-handed windage and elevation adjustments while keeping your shooting position unchanged. Instead of loosening knobs or shifting the rifle, you just move the control arm to keep the crosshairs on target, which makes fine alignment and follow-up shots much faster and more consistent. It’s built for benchrest accuracy work rather than portability, and it’s aimed at shooters who want very precise, repeatable positioning from shot to shot.

Caldwell Fire Control Full Length Shooting Rest
Caldwell's team of engineers has developed a series of rifle rests that incorporate their new "Fire Control" mechanism. "Fire Control" is an advanced alignment system that allows the shooter continual, one-hand adjustment of downrange crosshair alignment via a multi-directional control arm.
Caldwell Fire Control Full Length Shooting Rest Features
1. What is the Fire Control rest used for?
It’s used for precision bench shooting, especially zeroing optics, load testing, and improving shot consistency.
2. What makes it different from normal shooting rests?
The Fire Control system lets you adjust aim using a control arm without moving the rifle or loosening parts, which is much faster and more precise than standard rests.
3. Does it support the whole rifle?
Yes, it’s a full-length rest, meaning it supports both the front forend and rear of the rifle for maximum stability.
4. How heavy is it?
Around 15 lb (6.8 kg), so it’s very stable but not something you’ll want to carry long distances.
5. Can you adjust windage and elevation?
Yes, it offers continuous adjustment in both directions via the control arm, without needing manual repositioning.
6. Is it better than sandbags?
For precision shooting, yes—it gives far more repeatable and fine control than loose bag setups.
7. Will it work with AR-style rifles?
Yes, but it’s more commonly used with bolt-action rifles for precision work.
8. Is it portable?
Not really. It’s designed as a bench tool rather than something you transport frequently.
9. Does it damage the rifle?
No, it uses non-marring contact surfaces designed to protect firearm finishes.
10. What’s the main downside?
It’s bulky, expensive compared to basic rests, and overkill if you just want casual range shooting.
