The PM II 5–25x56 LP LRR‑MIL 1 cm cw DT / ST rifle scope from Schmidt & Bender represents a benchmark in precision optical engineering for long‑range tactical and competitive shooting applications. Developed within the renowned Police / Military (PM II) product line, this optic is designed to deliver uncompromising optical clarity, mechanical repeatability, and environmental durability under demanding operational conditions.

Optical System

The scope features a variable magnification range of 5x to 25x, providing a wide performance envelope suitable for mid‑range engagements through extreme long‑distance precision shooting. At lower magnification, the optic offers a broad field of view for target acquisition and situational awareness. At higher magnification, it delivers the image resolution necessary for precise shot placement at extended distances.

A 56 mm objective lens maximizes light transmission and enhances low‑light performance. The large objective diameter improves brightness and contrast during dawn, dusk, or overcast conditions. The optical system incorporates precision‑ground lenses with advanced multi‑coatings engineered to achieve light transmission levels exceeding 90 percent, ensuring high contrast, accurate color rendition, and minimal chromatic aberration.

The exit pupil ranges from approximately 11 mm at 5x magnification to 2.3 mm at 25x magnification, balancing brightness and precision across the zoom range. The field of view measures approximately 5.3 meters to 1.5 meters at 100 meters, depending on magnification. Eye relief is maintained at approximately 90 mm, which supports safe operation on rifles with significant recoil while preserving a consistent sight picture.

A side parallax adjustment system allows precise correction from close distances, typically around 10 meters, to infinity. This ensures elimination of parallax error and optimal reticle focus at any engagement distance.

Reticle System

This configuration utilizes the LRR‑MIL reticle positioned in the first focal plane (FFP). Because the reticle scales proportionally with magnification, all subtensions remain accurate throughout the entire zoom range. This characteristic is essential for range estimation, holdover correction, and wind compensation using the mil‑radian system.

The LRR‑MIL reticle is calibrated in milliradians and is fully matched to the turret adjustment value of 0.1 mrad per click, which corresponds to 1 centimeter of adjustment at 100 meters. This alignment between reticle and turret units simplifies ballistic correction and reduces the potential for calculation errors in dynamic shooting environments.

Depending on configuration, the reticle may include adjustable illumination with multiple brightness settings to enhance visibility against dark or complex backgrounds without overwhelming the shooter’s night-adapted vision.

Turret and Adjustment Mechanism

The scope incorporates a Double Turn (DT) elevation turret combined with a Single Turn (ST) windage turret. The double‑turn elevation design provides extended vertical adjustment travel for extreme long‑range shooting while maintaining compact turret geometry. A clear tactile and visual indicator distinguishes between the first and second revolution to prevent over‑rotation errors.

The windage turret operates in a single turn configuration to promote rapid lateral corrections without excessive rotation. The turret is configured for clockwise (cw) adjustment, which aligns with certain military and professional user preferences.

Each click adjustment is precisely machined to deliver consistent 0.1 mrad increments with highly tactile and audible feedback. The turret system is engineered for repeatability and tracking accuracy, ensuring that adjustments return reliably to zero after repeated elevation cycles.

Mechanical Construction

The scope is built around a robust 34 mm main tube, which increases structural rigidity and allows for a broad internal adjustment range. The housing is machined from high‑strength aluminum and finished with a durable protective coating designed to resist abrasion and corrosion.

The optic is nitrogen‑purged and hermetically sealed to prevent internal fogging and moisture ingress. It is engineered to withstand harsh environmental conditions, significant recoil forces, and immersion in water without performance degradation.

The overall length is approximately 417–420 mm, and the weight is approximately 1,100–1,125 grams, depending on exact configuration. These dimensions reflect a balance between mechanical robustness and practical integration onto modern precision rifle platforms.

Operational Application

The PM II 5–25x56 LP LRR‑MIL 1 cm cw DT / ST rifle scope is designed for professional users who demand mechanical precision, optical excellence, and reliable performance in high‑stress environments. It is particularly well suited for long‑range tactical engagements, precision rifle competition, and advanced marksmanship applications where accurate ballistic compensation and repeatable adjustments are critical.

Its combination of first focal plane mil‑based reticle architecture, precise double‑turn elevation system, and high‑transmission optical assembly positions it among the most technically refined long‑range rifle scopes available in the premium optics category.
