Using MOA Mounts with MIL Scopes
Yes, you can use a 20 MOA or 0 MOA scope mount with a MIL-based (MRAD) scope. The use of an MOA-angled mount does not affect how the scope’s internal adjustments function; it simply changes the starting point of the scope’s alignment.
How MOA Mounts Work
For example, a 20 MOA mount tilts the scope downward relative to the bore, effectively giving you more upward (elevation) travel in the scope. This is especially useful for long-range shooting where more elevation adjustment is needed to compensate for bullet drop.
Although the mount is angled in MOA, it doesn't matter whether your scope uses MOA or MILs — it’s just a physical cant of the rail or base. A 20 MOA incline equals roughly 5.8 MRAD, so you'll need to dial up approximately that amount more to zero your scope at close distances, depending on your rifle and cartridge.
A 0 MOA mount is flat (no cant), and as such, has no effect on your elevation range — it simply centres the scope relative to the bore.
Summary
- You can absolutely use an MOA mount with a MIL scope.
- It does not affect your MIL adjustments — only the zeroing position.
- 20 MOA = ~5.8 MRAD of downward cant (extra upward adjustment available).
- 0 MOA = flat; no added cant or benefit for long-range elevation.
