Vortex Optics Jackets, Fleeces & Hoodies

Layers are what actually decide whether a day out is enjoyable or endured. Get them right and you barely think about the weather; get them wrong and it's all you think about. Vortex's outerwear and layering range is a tight, well-judged selection that covers the three jobs that matter , keep the rain out, hold the warmth in, and give you something comfortable to pull on for everything else.

Cloud Shaker Rain Jacket

The shell at the top of the range, and the piece that earns its keep the second the sky turns. The Cloud Shaker is built to be packed and forgotten about until you need it , then it does exactly what a rain jacket should do without turning the day into a sauna.

Available in black and military olive for men, sizing through to XXXL, and in military olive for women from XS upwards. The olive is the natural choice if you want something that works in the field as well as around town; the black keeps it neutral for everyday wear.

If you only buy one piece of Vortex outerwear, this is it.

Yosemite Falls Microgrid Fleece

The technical mid-layer. Grid fleece construction is the clever bit here , the waffled inner face traps a layer of warm air against you while staying genuinely light, so you get proper insulation without the bulk that stops you moving or shouldering a rifle cleanly.

It also layers properly. Slim enough to sit under the Cloud Shaker without bunching, warm enough to wear on its own through most of the shoulder seasons. Available in black and Turbulence, a muted grey that goes with everything.

This is the piece that quietly becomes the one you reach for most.

Heavyweight Comfort Hoodie

Exactly what the name promises. A proper thick, substantial hoodie , the kind that holds its shape after a winter of hard use rather than going thin and sad by February. Soft on the inside, heavyweight on the outside, and cut generously enough to layer over.

Comes in black and a dull gold heather that's a genuinely good-looking alternative to the usual dark palette, sized from Small through to XXXL.

For most people this is the default from October onwards: cold mornings, drives to the ground, the walk back to the car, evenings in the yard.

Smalltown Slayer Hoodie

A lighter, more relaxed take for milder days and indoor wear, finished in cool grey. Less bulk than the Heavyweight, same easy comfort , good for spring and autumn when a full winter hoodie is overkill.

How to layer the range

The three pieces are designed to stack:

  • Fleece alone , dry, cool days and active use
  • Fleece under the Cloud Shaker , cold and wet, the full combination
  • Hoodie on its own , everything else

Sizing runs XS to Large for women and Small to XXXL across the men's pieces, so there's a proper fit available rather than a compromise.
